Bun Festival

Bun festival takes place in front of the Pak Tai Temple on the island of Cheung Chau every year in May. It is famous for its “bun towers”, Consisting of bamboo frames, often up to 20 metres high, covered with thousands of pink and white lotus paste buns. The festival came about after the discovery of human bones during construction work on the temple, this led the islanders to make offerings of steamed buns to appease any spirits angered by the disturbance. The highlight of the festival is the procession in which children are dressed as gods and are carried above the crowd.
